Notes
- There is no record of Charles Henry's death. Yet his wife Elizabeth Eliza Hookway remarried in 1901. In the 1901 census she gave her marrial status as a widow? The last record of him is on the birth certificate of his daughter Elsie Grace Hookway in 1896. So between 1896 and 1901 he must have died but where and when? It was rummerd within the family that he had gone to Africa as a missonary, work in the gold mines, or even a slave trader.See Maurds letter. There was a C Hookway that sailed from Liverpool on the 9th August 1900 bound for West Africa.(see SS Sobo) was this Charles Henry? If so did he die enroute or in West Africa. How did Elizabeth find out to allow her to remarry?
